What extends should a teacher go to in order to keep students conscientious? How to prevent switching off and activate their brain work? These questions pushed me to research neural networks and establish a methodology that helps to keep attention captured. I’m inviting you to go deeper and explore the fascinating cooperation of our body and brain. In this session you’ll learn how to make your students literally move to knowledge. Exclusive materials that can be customized to your lesson are provided.

“Praise spoils the student”. “Strict teachers are the most effective”. “I am hopeless at learning languages”.
Teachers and students bring their mindsets into the classroom. Beliefs about an effective teaching process influence every minute of classroom time. Sometimes mindsets and beliefs foster successful learning, growth, enjoyment of the language, and communication. Sometimes, however, teaching and learning can halt because of them.
What kind of beliefs make learning both effective and joyful? How can we use the tools and methods that foster learner motivation, autonomy, and confidence in teachers and learners? In my talk, we will look at current findings in positive psychology and mindset research in language learning, and learn to apply the most effective techniques to our classroom practice and communication with our students.
Maria Kholmohorskaya
Maria Kholmogorskaya graduated from MSPU, has been working as a teacher of English for more than 7 years. During that time she managed to work at the university, school and EF (English First). Now Maria is focused on teaching pronunciation, especially British Accent. She taught more than one hundred students to speak like native speakers. Maria is using new neuro approach to teaching pronunciation.
Our students are always focused on lexical and grammar parts, but sometimes they really lack pronunciation skills. This talk will be about the importance of teaching pronunciation. During the talk the audience will learn various ways of teaching pronunciation, some tips on implementing several techniques into their classes. The audience will also try some of the things themselves.
Amr Fawzy
I'm a TESOL-certified teacher from Arizona State University, currently working as a methodologist in Izhevsk. With a decade of teaching experience in Turkey, Romania, China, and Egypt, I've also had the opportunity to share my insights as a speaker at various conferences in Russia. My passion for education drives my commitment to effective language instruction.
In my talk, I'll explore the importance of grammar education and how using metaphors can enhance the learning process. I'll discuss how incorporating metaphors into grammar instruction can make the subject more engaging and memorable for students. By drawing connections between grammar rules and everyday concepts, we can empower students to grasp and retain these essential language skills effectively, ensuring they never forget the valuable lessons they learn. Join me to discover the power of metaphors in grammar education.
Irina Kuznetsova

Daria Churkina
A self-employed English teacher with over 5 years of experience. Holds a Master's degree in TEFL (Modern Technologies in Teaching English) and a Cambridge CAE. This new academic year, launched 2 groups for teachers (English + Methodology course) and started teaching ESP for IT specialists at the IT Academy. In June 2023, gave a talk at 'I Wish I Knew' Charity Conference for over 900 fellow teachers.
In the age of fast content, constant stream of games, and news stories, it is getting harder for students to concentrate on one task for an extended period. In this conference talk, we will delve into the mystery of a decreased attention span and try to find some strategies to help learners stay focused when learning a language. Participants can expect to gain theoretical reasoning of a decreased concentration, as well as practical tips and activities to foster a more intentional and impactful learning environment.
Tony Mironova
A passionate teacher who's big on English in all its aspects!

Today I invite you to explore the diverse and infinite world of storytelling. We will start by discussing what storytelling is and what components it includes. Being one of the most common social practices, storytelling appears to be an effective tool for disclosing the target language. But in modern days, due to a number of factors, many adolescents struggle when it comes to making up a story from scratch. Thus, teachers are supposed to support, scaffold and navigate students more carefully. And today I will outline several possible ways in which authentic video games may be useful.
Maria Govorukhina
I'm a Moscow-based English teacher and my area of expertise lies in teaching adults. I have about 12 years of teaching experience but started working as a full-time teacher in 2015 after taking CELTA. In 2018 I got Grade A in CAE exam and in 2021 I completed Module 1 of DELTA. Since 2021 I’ve been teaching English and methodology to other language teachers.
Being a lexically-oriented teacher, I tend to see all speaking activities as opportunities for teaching. This means we’re supposed to provide students with meaningful feedback after any interaction. During this practical session I’m going to demonstrate how I provide feedback on speaking, and specifically work with emergent language – unplanned language produced by students – and how to further expand on the language point.
Helen Proshlyakova
Helen is MSPU IIE teacher, Education First Certified Leader.
What is Poll Everywhere? How does Poll Everywhere facilitate whole-class participation and assessment? What types of activities can teachers create using Poll Everywhere? In this workshop, I will present concepts and strategies on effectively utilizing Poll Everywhere for both online and offline sessions. So, let's get started!
Anastasia Kirillova
In the past 15 years I’ve taught general, business and legal English to corporate, private and university students. Since I passed my CPE with grade A in 2020, my main focus has been on working with higher levels and hosting speaking clubs. I currently teach Academic English and English for Specific Purposes at RANEPA, as well as work with private students and groups primarily consisting of English teachers.
In my interactive talk, I’m going to demonstrate three relatively low-prep activities aimed at vocabulary recycling: Memory Quiz, Prompted Recall, and Chunk & Chat. Rooted in the Lexical Approach, they are quite versatile and can be adapted to different levels, topics, and teaching contexts. I use them in my group and individual classes, both online and offline. They are engaging, occasionally fun, and create meaningful contexts for vocabulary recycling. During my presentation, the audience will be my ‘students’, but I will also invite them to reflect on how they can use, tweak and extend these activities in their own classrooms.
Irina Atalay
I’ve been involved in language teaching for 7 years. I speak five languages and hold three English language certificates (IELTS 8.0, TOEFL 107, CAE A). My greatest achievement is being a Fulbright alumnus: I spent a year teaching and studying at the University of Utah as part of my FLTA 21-22 program. Areas of professional interest: TBLT, course and materials design, teacher CPD.
My talk is devoted to Task-based Language Learning and Teaching (TBLT) and its practical implementation. I’d like to provide an overview of this approach, comment on its benefits and limitations, and explain what makes it ideally suited for one-to-one instruction. By the end of the talk, you’ll enhance your understanding of how to implement task-based lessons and syllabi to maximize the effectiveness of your one-to-one teaching.
Alyona Gilyova
I am Alyona Vladimirovna Gilyova, a teaching assistant at the Institute of International Education in Moscow Pedagogical State University. My professional sphere of interest is associated with the implementation of various teaching tools in the learning process to enhance students’ academic performance and boost motivation. I believe that “nothing is impossible, the word itself says ‘I’m possible!” (Audrey Hepburn). You just need to make an effort to achieve your goals!
Teachers are aware of the fact that it is crucially important for students to review vocabulary at home. In reality, learners reluctantly go through endless word lists, glossaries, or pages of a coursebook that do not contribute to their progress. But how to encourage them to practise newly learnt lexical items in an engaging and repetitive way? In this talk, I focus on the implementation of “Wordstool” in teaching practice. Drawing from Hermann Ebbinghaus’s theory of the forgetting curve, the app optimises memory retention by spacing word recall exercises. As a result, it prevents information decay over time. This talk will be useful for those who are into Lexical approach and eager to vary English lessons.
Viktoria Zhukova
I am qualified as a teacher of English, German and Russian as a foreign language, specializing in teaching foreign languages and teaching methods, working as a faculty member at IIE, Moscow State Pedagogical University. I teach English as a Foreign language, English Literature and psycholinguistics. My Ph.D. thesis is devoted to the research of ground-breaking innovations in designing teaching materials based on Web-Quest technology.
A necessary condition for the implementation of federal state educational standards is a systematic approach to education. Teachers should use modern activity-based educational technologies, one of which is project technology using Internet resources. One such technology that holds great potential in teaching English as a foreign language is Web-quest- a learning tool that engages students in collaborative and inquiry-based activities. This not only enhances their language skills but also fosters critical thinking and problem-solving abilities. Additionally, Web-quests promote autonomous learning, as students are actively involved in the learning process, making choices, and taking ownership of their education. There are various platforms which can be used by teacher for creating and assigning the Web-quest-based tasks. The potential of these platforms will be shown and hignlited during the workshop.
Sofya Lindunen

This talk is dedicated to the methodological analysis of one of the most popular mobile games (apps) called the Romance club in the teaching context for developing students' motivation to reading in English. We will discuss the useful features and how to implement this mobile game into the academic curriculum. By the end of this talk you will know why it might be a good idea to use the Romance club game with your students and learn how manage the process of implementing it.
Polly Arteeva
Hi! I’m Polly Arteeva, and I teach English through magic. How is it possible? While preparing for international exams, getting qualifications and teaching teenagers and adults for 5 years, I tried various methods and approaches, and made a perfect potion: communicative approach + internet resources + authenticity + student’s personality. I know everything about interactive platforms, artificial intelligence and other internet treasures that ease the process of English learning not only for students, but also for teachers.
Have you ever felt that you’ve tried everything to make your students speak? Are you tired of asking questions like “what would you do if you were a worm?” What about endless hours of preparation? If you’ve ever feel related, you definitely need to find out TOP-5 amusing ways to practice speaking with the help of the Net when everything on earth has already been discussed. Turn your lessons into even more interactive and engaging process of learning English, and free some time to make a cup of coffee for yourself during a break.
Olesya Shadrina
Olesya Shadrina is a senior teacher at MIPT having 12 years of teaching experience and interested in gamification and AI terminology.
This investigation uses Gamification as a strategy to increase inner motivation and learner autonomy in acquiring L2 technical vocabulary by students of technical specialties at the B2/C1 level in a virtual classroom. The case study uses a two-cycle action research design to assess the difference between learning technical vocabulary with and without Quizlet support throughout a spring semester, observes the development of learner autonomy assessed through Survey, and demonstrates the growth of inner motivation reflected by Brain Quiz team scores.
Mariia Borodina
My name is Borodina Mariia, I live and work in Tula and I’m passionate about teaching English. I run my own school “Albion” and it’s a cosy land of British culture I’m trying to bring to our classrooms. I’m also inspired by uniting teachers not only from my native town but also from different parts of our country so it’s the second year I’ve been organising an ESL Conference “Hakuna ma Teacha” in Tula that has become another destination of my career development and inspiration.
Teachers are really keen on using different kinds of approaches in their teaching. But we all forget that the process, textbooks and scientific methods are not the main actors on the stage. At the conference I will speak about creativity at the lessons: what are the 5 “P”s of creative teaching? What is creative pedagogy and what relationships it has with Critical pedagogy?( moreover, is it possible to combine them) And why neuroscience puts creativity as one of the most powerful activating methods while teaching people with some special disorders.
Ekaterina Panfilova
Teacher-polyglot, certified neurointegration trainer, head of SELF -- a project and community for teachers and educators devoted to anti-burnout and soft skills. Teaches English, German and Latin online to teenagers and young adults, studies brain and creativity. Formerly MPSU and HSE, currently RANEPA.
Teaching languages nowadays can be challenging. Despite the fact that there are long-lasting approaches, such as Cognitive approach, and some sort of methodological stability, the studies of brain never cease to introduce novelties. Apart from neuroscience there are soft skills that are also connected to cognition and metacognition. This influences how languages are learnt and taught these days. This talk will look closer at how to apply neuroscience and soft skills to language learning basing on Cognitive approach.
Ekaterina Redkina
Ekaterina Redkina is a psychologist and a qualified English teacher with 15-year experience. She is CELTA and Delta (M1-2) holder and a Fulbright scholar. Currently, she is giving lectures on TESOL at the Institute of International Education of Moscow Pedagogical State University. She is also teaching teenage students and adults. Her primary interests are concerned with integrating psychology into English teaching and providing teachers with useful psychological instruments and tools.
We often see psychology as a theoretical discipline. However, modern psychology has much to offer to English teachers. This talk is dedicated to practical advice, so-called life hacks, that teachers may borrow from psychology and effectively use in their teaching practice. In this session you will learn about the golden rule of praise and criticism; about the power of beliefs; and about the almost magic effect expectations have on students’ success.
